People matter more than places
So I wanted to take a moment and talk about my social media project, or more exactly the people I am doing it for. In case you were wondering this will tie back into the main theme of the blog.
I am doing my social media project for mountaintop vistas, an airbnb owned by Nancy and Dale Kiffer (pictured below). I first met Nancy and Dale when my service organization (Epsilon Tau Pi) was looking for a venue to host an
event inviting our alumni back to see how things are going and do some service. While we were touring the property I noticed that they had a lot of ongoing projects and asked if they needed some help with things from time to time. This was pretty atypical for me, 1. because I am a pretty shy person despite being extroverted and find meeting new people intimidating, 2. I do NOT have an entrepreneurial drive, I always tell my friends its not the amount of money you make, but the number of people you impact that measures your success in life.
So I started working for Nancy and Dale doing odd jobs and stuff. I have done all sorts of stuff there, weed eating, assembling curtains, hanging lights, painting, one day I did nothing move rocks to build a wall. Some of that was some hard work, but the more time I have spent with them the more certain I am that Nancy and Dale are some of the nicest people I will ever meet. During the school year I would work all day on Saturdays on their almost 100 acre property helping to make their visions a reality. Everyday they would invite me in for lunch with them, have a big bowl of soup and watch me fumble through some card game. Everything I have done is met with exuberant praise, "that's GENIUS!", "that's WONDERFUL" (I'm just thinking to myself, man all I did was spread some gravel, I don't know how wonderful it could be...). Their property is beautiful, (see the picture I put up on twitter earlier today below. Someday I will forget what this view was like, the picture in my head will get hazy. I will always remember Nancy and Dale though. The secret to great memories isn't necessarily a scenic view or challenging experience, the most important component of a great memory is meeting and impacting people you wouldn't have met otherwise.
Want to meet Nancy and Dale yourself? Want to see more and much better pictures of the mountaintop I work on every day after class? Here is the link to their airbnb properties, yes there are two, but they are on the same property.
