Facebook Competitor Assessment
In this post I assessed the social media presence of venues that I felt were most similar to Mountaintop Vistas, all were pulled from the 2018 edition of the High Country Wedding Guide, which Nancy and Dale had advertised in as well. Links to all of the venues can be found at the end of the article.
Valle Crucis Vineyard
Valle Crucis Vineyard is exactly what it sounds like, a vineyard nestled in scenic Valle Crucis. They do not have a strong cross platform presence. They have a very basic Facebook page and a website but no presence on other platforms.
Things they did well
- They have top notch photos. Most wedding venues do, because photographers are usually happy to share a few good shots for publicity.
- They have multiple forms of contact available. Email, and a phone number are provided beyond the ability to message the venue on Facebook.
- They provide updates on the property to keep people interested in it. This includes things like pictures of grape harvests and the changing of the seasons.
Things that could be improved
- They rarely post. Posts are infrequent and consequentially don't keep people engaged and interested as effectively as they could.
- Small cross platform presence. They more platforms you have a presence on the more places people can talk about you.
- Lack of engagement with others on the platform. Engaging with others on the platform would help foster a sense of friendliness and authenticity.
The Property Venue
The Property Venue is a rustic and secluded farmstead available for weddings, reunions and parties. They have a decent cross platform presence
Things they did well
- Great photos. Like I said previously, most wedding venues will have great photos from photographers looking for a little exposure.
- Posts have a narrative. Their posts help construct a narrative that people can participate in and follow.
- Linked accounts. The Instagram account they have has a link to their Facebook profile, increasing traffic between the two.
Things that could be improved
- Infrequent posts. They would be better served by posting more often to maintain a more active presence and to help keep people engaged and interested.
- Cross platforming issues. Their is no link to reserve the property from either platform and the Facebook does not link back to the Instagram.
- No independent site. Having an independent site would make renting easier for potential customers and allow for more information about the property to be stored in one place.
White Fence Farm
White Fence Farm rentals actually administers 4 properties, but here specifically I am examining only the event venue property. They have a good cross platform presence, having a Facebook, Instagram and website.
Things they did well
- Again, good photos. At this point it should be evident that if you are a venue that wants to host weddings you should have top notch photography to spare.
- Good engagement with others. They do a good job of engaging with guests on social media to create a friendly persona and more presence.
- Cross platform traffic direction. All platforms guide users to the main site for more information and rental/reservation.
Things that could be improved
- Oddly worded posts. There are a few posts where the diction and syntax of posts are a bit odd or off, something potentially off putting that could be fixed with a little extra due diligence.
- A little more cross platforming. While their cross platform presence is pretty good, (their social media accounts link to their website) the social media accounts do not link to each other. While this isn't that big of a deal it wouldn't hurt to link them to each other .
- Highlighting the difference in properties. As I mentioned above this group manages 4 properties. It would be beneficial to maintain separate accounts for them to maintain the division of the different types of properties and prevent confusion.
